The Vibes Newsroom Spotlight: why is Altimet contesting for Ampang PKR chief?
Despite the lack of heavy campaigning and participation in party activities, 43-year-old Altimet believes he has laid down enough groundwork after carrying out lots of charity, and non-governmental organisation work, especially in the past year. – NOOREEZA HASHIM/The Vibes pic, May 14, 2022

RAPPER turned politician Altimet – real name Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman – is aiming to become Ampang PKR chief as a way to give back to the community that has made a huge impact on his personal and professional life.

The hip-hop star, who is in the race with Datuk Hans Isaac and other seasoned party members, also explains he has no bad blood with them.

Altimet also said he is a self-styled underdog in the election, being the “greenest” candidate with the “least amount of preparation and resources”.

Despite the lack of heavy campaigning and participation in party activities, the 43-year-old believes he has laid down enough groundwork after carrying out a “good amount” of charity, and non-governmental organisation work, especially in the past year.

Ampang is considered a hot seat as the winner will likely be challenging former division chief Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin – who was fired from the party and joined Bersatu following the Sheraton Move in February 2020 – in the next general election. – The Vibes, May 14, 2022
