BERSATU deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu, popularly known as Peja, has a reputation for being quite a jester and someone who simply loves to laugh.

He claims that not many people can place his face against his real name if they have to. Even young children in his former parliamentary constituency of Tambun know him simply as Peja.

This week, our hosts on The Good, The Bad and The Ugly are joined by The Vibes’ sports and fitness editor T. Vignesh as they engage in conversation with possibly one of the most vivacious and animated personalities to be interviewed on the podcast.

Peja talks about where his focus now lies after narrowly failing to defend Tambun in the 15th general election against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is now prime minister.

He confirms that he will not be running in any of the six state elections, which are due by the middle of the year. He reasons that there are enough leaders in Perikatan Nasional (PN) to take this on, and that his current focus is on grooming more leaders in Selangor, Penang and Negri Sembilan.

Faizal also shares his thoughts on the lack of appeal that PN has among liberal Malays and other races – an important factor standing against PN – and what can be done to overcome the perception of PN among a wider audience.

The former youth and sports minister also discusses his legacy in the ministry. He dives deep on the proposed Safe Sport Act and why it is crucial to safeguard athletes. He discharges his frank opinion and thoughts on his successor, the current Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, and his hopes for the development of sports in Malaysia. – The Vibes, February 27, 2023
