POLICE will summon Hulu Kinta State Assemblyman (ADUN), Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad, to record his statement after he allegedly made threats by displaying an object resembling a pistol.

Perak Police Chief, Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said police received a report regarding the incident from a man at 12:28 pm on Sunday.

According to him, the man reported that there was a commotion during the Eid celebration at the Taman Indah Community Hall.

"While attending the event, the complainant reported that a politician pointed an object resembling a pistol at him and asked him to leave the location.

"The complainant was not satisfied and requested police assistance at the location," he said.

He said that police have already started the investigation by calling several witnesses who were at the scene of the incident.

So far, eight witnesses have come forward to provide their statements and they are currently tracking down other witnesses who are said to have seen the incident as shown in a viral video.

The politician involved was also called in to assist with the investigation.

Earlier, Muhamad Arafat claimed the allegations were defamatory.

"Every time the party (PKR) election period comes, there will be those who slander for the political interests of the candidates opposing me," he said.

Muhamad Arafat, the incumbent Tambun PKR branch chief, is being challenged by Shamsul Kamar Ani.

The 65 seconds video shows an individual introducing himself as Kalai, alleging that Muhamad Arafat showed a pistol to members who were soliciting votes.

The individual involved, who is referred to as the candidate for deputy chief of the Tambun branch, also stated that they have evidence because it was witnessed by many people.

Muhamad Arafat said a police report had also been made against the individual.

"I have instructed my lawyer to initiate legal action against the individual who defamed me," he added. - April 14, 2025
