KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Football League (MFL) and the FA of Malaysia (FAM) have submitted sponsorship proposals respectively to conglomerate Berjaya Corporation Bhd this week.
According to a source in the football fraternity, FAM president Datuk Hamidin Haji Amin had met Berjaya’s newly appointed chief executive, Abdul Jalil Abdul Rasheed, on Tuesday and presented him with a national team jersey as a token of appreciation but the reason for the meeting was not revealed.
At the same time, Berjaya Group’s Special Officer Amin Fuad had earlier today tweeted that he had received two sponsorship decks from MFL and FAM respectively and he was told to evaluate the proposal. However, the tweet was later deleted.
The tweet by Amin Fuad has just confirmed that MFL and FAM are in talks with Berjaya Group.
“The amount of the sponsorship MFL and FAM have asked in the proposal is unknown because it was discussed by the football body’s Board Members in a closed-door meeting. Nevertheless, I hope it is a significant amount," said the source citing that the M-League is running low in its coffers.
“I believe that they are currently negotiating a sponsorship deal. It will take some time before we know of any further developments,” said the source.
MFL, earlier this week, had announced the sponsorship deal worth RM500,000 for the 2021 M-League season with popular local fashion retailer, Pusat Pakaian Hari-Hari.
Sources in the sports industry believe that if the Berjaya deal goes through, then it is great news for sports as they believe more private organisations should be more involved in Malaysian sports.
Other private sectors sponsoring the M-League are TM Malaysia (RM30 million), Nike and 100Plus (in kind). - The Vibes, April 9, 2021.
