KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) will go ahead with the National teams training programme despite the rising cases of COVID-19, which have seen the numbers go up significantly over the last few weeks.
MHC president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal told The Vibes that the training programmes will still go as schedule but under strict SOP measures.
“We will place stricter SOP measures to ensure the safety of the players and the officials involved in training,” he said.
At the same time, National team committee chairman, Datuk Ahmad Najmi Abdul Razak said that the coaches had a meeting with the National Sports Council last week and it was agreed that training will go on as usual until further notice.
“We will train until we hear from NSC. However, there will be some challenges on the usage of the gym as there will be timing clashes between the teams and also the number of athletes.
“The women’s team have not started yet because there is a slight change on their training schedule.
“There will be other athletes using the gym as well, so we need to plan properly on the schedules. We are currently having this discussion with the NSC,” he said.
Meanwhile, when The Vibes contacted National team manager Datuk Mirnawan Nawawi added that there is a Plan B if there is a lockdown in Bukit Jalil or in Sri Petaling.
“We have a backup plan if it worsens and affects these areas. The national team will camp at the NSC dormitories. Only if the situation in Bukit Jalil or Sri Petaling gets lockdown,” he said.
Last week, The MHC announced the cancellation of the Junior League due to the rise of the Covid-19 as the national body, in a statement said that decision was made after several discussions with the Health Ministry and the National Security Council.
Yesterday, the Youth and Sports minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican, announced that events organised by the ministry and its agencies will be postponed until after October 31, except for daily training. – The Vibes, October 11, 2020
