KUALA LUMPUR – The national hockey teams have been given the green light to continue their training programme amidst the conditional movement control order (CMCO).

The government yesterday announced the implementation of the CMCO in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Putrajaya, and Sabah as the cases of the Covid-19 increased significantly.

When contacted by The Vibes, national team committee chairman Datuk Ahmad Najmi Razak said that the Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) and the National Sports Council (NSC) are sorting out the logistics at the moment.

“The players will camp in the NSC provided hostels for the next two-weeks until CMCO is lifted. This will include all the coaches, managers and the backroom staff,” he said.

At the same time, NSC director-general Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail told The Vibes that NSC will be responsible to provide the accommodation and transportation during the two-weeks of CMCO.

“We are rushing to get everything done at the moment as we only have few hours before the CMCO starts. We will also provide transportation for the athletes from the hostels to their respective training centres.

The athletes are not allowed to go out on their own as they all will need to strictly follow the provided SOPs. “We are working on stricter SOPs,” said Shapawi.

This comes after the Ministry of Youth and Sports released a statement today stating that centralised training programs under the NSC and its state affiliates will be allowed to continue in a close and controlled order (Quarantine Based Approach) at the NSC Sports Complex in Bukit Jalil and Keramat, the Badminton Association of Malaysia training complex in Bukit Kiara and at the Malaysian Paralympic Sports Excellence Centre in Kampung Pandan.

The Ministry also said that only individual recreational activities such as jogging, e-sports, aerobics, brisk walking and cycling with not more than a group of 10 people will be allowed during the period of the CMCO.

“Swimming and football are among the other physical sports that are banned during these two weeks,” said the Ministry in the statement.

Gymnasiums, swimming pool, futsal courts, badminton courts and recreational parks located in areas under the CMCO are required to cease operations until further notice.

The Ministry has also advised the other states that are not affected by the CMCO to continue their sporting activities, and be vigilant and adhere to the respective SOPs. – The Vibes, October 13, 2020.
