Kuala Lumpur – The Registrar of Societies Malaysia (ROS) officialized the formation of the National Sports & Fitness Venue Owners and Operators Association (NSFVOOA) following 6 months of continuous deliberations and discussions. This comes at a time where most sports and fitness venues have been closed and non-operational due to the Covid-19 pandemic, suffering unsurmountable losses as a result. With the formation of the NSFVOOA, the plight of these venue operators can be represented and addressed immediately at a national level.
“It did not happen overnight,” said Dato Radha Krishnan, President of the NSFVOOA. “We have worked tirelessly to submit our proposal for the formalisation of this association for the benefit of the sports and fitness community. We are truly grateful for the endorsement by the Ministry of Youth & Sports (KBS) as well as the consultation assistance provided by the Sports Ministry and the National Sports Institute (ISN) on how best to launch this association and to gain ROS approval,” he added.
NSFVOOA was developed and formalised with five key objectives. They are as follows;
1. To empower the coalition of owners & operators of sports complexes & fitness centres under one national association
2. Focusing on concerns and providing assistance to aspects from formation, management, marketing and collaborations between its members
3. Execute community CSR programs and business development
4. Develop a networking platform between its members; assisting to problem solve in issues such as operations and businesses strategically and creatively
5. Provide a platform for members to voice ideas, comments, concerns and voices in dialogues, discussions and meetings with other organizations, associations, local authorities, ministries as well from private sectors.
“Together with the industry, we will be submitting a proposal to both the Ministry of Youth & Sports and the Sports Industry Secretariat (SIS) in establishing Sports Satellite Account for the sports industry, giving detailed information on the current state of affairs of this industry at large along with figures on losses the industry has suffered to date due to closure. We will be having a meeting next week, to discuss on next steps to be taken to properly moot this proposal to the government. Our target in the coming three months is to reach 300 registered members nationwide, representing all states and covering 40 different sports and fitness activities.” said Dato Radha.
Dato Radha is no stranger to the local sports and fitness industry, having led many local sports associations spanning three decades and serving in various capacities in the sports industry. Dato Radha was also appointed to the Panel of Experts by the Ministry of Youth & Sports recently to highlight issues facing the industry.
The appointed council members of the NSFVOOA include the following;
1. Dato V. Radha Krishnan – President & Chairman
2. En. Raezal Bin Mohamed Hussein – Deputy President
3. En. Mohd Shamil Bin Mohd Yusof – Vice President
4. En. H’Ng Raymond – Secretary
