KOTA BHARU - Gabungan Sepaktakraw Kelantan (GASTAK) is seeking immediate approval by the sports commissioner to allow the Malaysian Sepak Takraw Federation (PSM) to hold an extraordinary emergency general meeting (EGM).
GASTAK president Zuraidin Abdullah said that as a member of G11, comprising state associations who withdrew from PSM previously, they were committed to resolving longstanding issues together for the sake of Malaysian sepak takraw.
“We, the state sepak takraw associations, place high hopes that the next process, an EGM, can be held as early as possible and managed properly according to the terms and conditions that were agreed upon.
“We welcome the statement by sports commissioner Ibrahim Mohd Yusof regarding the plan and strategy to restore PSM. The G11 views the understanding and agreement by all parties achieved through a series of discussions with PSM as commitment to further efforts to restore the sport to its former glory,” he said in a statement today.
Yesterday, media outlets reported that the sports commissioner had stressed that the proposed formation of a new sepak takraw association, or Gabungan Sepak Takraw Malaysia (GSM), to replace the PSM would not be continued.
Zuraidin also said the G11 were thankful to the government, especially for the action taken under the sports commissioner’s watch who wants a plan that brings about a spirit of tolerance and compromise via negotiations by all stakeholders.
He said the basis of the understanding was everyone’s determination to carry out reforms for the sake and sustainability of the development of sepak takraw in the country.
“As a result, several positive developments have been achieved, especially regarding checks and balances in PSM’s constitution that will be tabled and approved at the upcoming EGM.
“We are also satisfied with the briefing by the sports commissioner about the final draft of the constitutional amendments at a special session held on Aug 11,” he said. - Bernama. August 20, 2021
