WHEN this programme started a few years back, it was called 'Jom Kurus' (Let's Get Thin). As a girl, who was consistently-underweight at the time, I was not really aligned with its chosen objective.

Being ‘kurus’ (thin) for the better of my life meant that I had to force myself to eat a lot to gain weight. Well, a lot of unhealthy food, that is.

As I was not concerned with my eating habits, I believed that the more fattening food I consumed, the faster I would be able to fit into adult clothes.

Prior to this dietary goal, I was buying clothes from the children’s department, but all that fun ended the day I saw cool yoga clothes for adults.

The subsequent name-change for the ‘Jom Kurus’ programme to ‘Bukan Soal Kurus’ (Not A Question Of Being Thin) resonated with me.

Organised by the Malaysian government and led by Kevin Zahri, the programme consists of a single coach overseeing the progress of seventy-five participants over the course of eight weeks.

As a person who suffered weight issues in the past, I was truly humbled to be appointed as coach for this year’s programme and was thankful for the opportunity.

Despite this wonderful experience coming to an end, I am proud of the incredible friendships I have cultivated with all seventy-five ladies; although we have never met in person, we exchange messages daily on our chat group.

Since most of them had never done yoga before, getting them to practise on a daily basis was a challenge, but after a week, it was simply a breeze.

In eight weeks, I’m proud to say that I managed to coach these ladies from zero to headstands and full splits. I would also like to compliment the programme’s head coach, actor and MMA fighter, Andy Teh, for a fantastic job − evidently, targets have been met, what with e-learning platforms being so easily accessible.

This week, I am going to take you through my ‘Bukan Soal Kurus’ class so join me below on a specifically-curated and customised flow for weight loss. – The Vibes, August 25, 2021
