KUALA LUMPUR – Two senior players of the national women's hockey special project squad, namely Nuraini Abdul Rashid and Fatin Shafika Mohd Sukri, will be joining England-based East Grinstead HC hockey club for a month.

Nuraini and Fatin will depart for England this week and will be with the team until October 18. They intend to ply their trade in the English Hockey League (EHL) and help the club fight for the title.

Nuraini, who made her debut in 2019, is no stranger to East Grinstead.

"I am grateful for the opportunity (with East Grinstead) and I definitely want to maintain my performance from the last two seasons.

“I am also determined to keep up with the team and achieve the top two positions in the league,” she said.

“Compared to Malaysia, the league teams (in England) are different. While their teams were in the top three at the Tokyo Olympics, East Grinstead alone has three Olympians,” she added.

Nuraini expressed her excitement at returning to East Grinstead where she can continue to gather experience and learn new skills from their players.

On the other hand, it will be Fatin’s first time playing with the runner-ups of the EHL.

Fatin and Nuraini had previously joined Rome’s Butterfly Roma hockey club in 2018 and in 2019.

"I'm happy and excited to play in the EHL. I want to make the best of this opportunity to prove that Malaysian players have what it takes to play alongside them,” said Fatin. – The Vibes, September 9, 2021
