IPOH – The Perak Football Association (Pafa) have been suspended for six months following a violation of the association’s constitution in dismissing the membership of 12 affiliates.

Sports Commissioner Ibrahim Mohd Yusof said the suspension would, among others, give Pafa the space and opportunity to form a new committee and resolve the crisis engulfing the state football administration.

“The dismissal is found to be invalid and not in accordance with the association’s constitution. We have no choice but to suspend Pafa to ensure they take remedial measures to get back on the right track.

“The suspension is for six months so that there is time to form a new committee, besides giving us feedback within 14 days. The suspension notice will be issued soon,” he told reporters today.

The decision on the suspension was made at a meeting today that was attended by Kerian District Football Association secretary Tajul Hasnan, representing the affiliates expelled by Pafa acting president Datuk Muhammad Yadzan Mohammad.

On November 25 last year, Muhammad Yadzan, at his press conference, announced the dismissal of 12 Pafa affiliates and claimed that the group had planned to hold an extraordinary general meeting (EGM).

He claimed that the dismissal was following the violation of Article 80 of the Pafa Constitution on membership which states that no affiliate member can be a member of two associations since 12 of the 18 members had insisted on holding the EGM.

The “Group of 12” affiliates are the Football Associations (FAs) of Perak Tengah, Tapah, Kampar, Gerik, Lenggong, Hulu Perak, Kampung Gajah, Ipoh, Larut Matang & Selama, Hilir Perak, Kerian and the FA of Perak Malays.

On December 19, the “Group of 12” held an EGM and appointed Hilir Perak District Football Association president Datuk Mohd Azhar Jamaluddin as the new Pafa president.

Commenting on the congress, Ibrahim said it did not apply due to technical problems in the eligibility of the affiliate members, who were found to have not paid their PAFA fees and, thus, were not eligible to hold the EGM.

“Following that, we decided that the legally elected Pafa Committee is that at the 2018-2021 session as in the previous election,” he said while also suggesting that the coming EGM must include the “Group of 12” in electing the new committee for the sake of football’s progress in Perak. – Bernama, March 7, 2022
