KUALA LUMPUR – National badminton ace Lee Zii Jia is knocked out of the semi-finals of the German Open after losing out to Thailand’s Kunlavut Vitidsarn 21-13, 21-12 today.

World number 20 Vitidsarn took the first set in 20 minutes at the Westenergie Sporthalle in Muelheim An Der Ruhr.

The 20-year-old Thai shuttler then secured the win in the second set, sending world number seven Zii Jia home.

In the finals tomorrow, Vitidsarn will either face world number one Viktor Axelsen of Denmark or India’s Lakshya Sen, who play their semi-final match later.

Meanwhile, the only remaining Malaysian doubles pair of Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin face off against China’s He Ji Ting-Zhou Hao Dong later for a spot in the men’s doubles final.

They won 21-15, 20-22, 21-19 against fellow countrymen Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi yesterday in the quarterfinals.

Women’s doubles pair Vivian Hoo-Lim Chiew Sien failed to beat top-seeded duo Chen Qing Chen-Jia Yi Fan of China yesterday while tenth seed mixed-doubles pair Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing were overcome by Thailand’s top-ranked Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai. – The Vibes, March 12, 2022
