KANGAR – Perlis-born Athachai a/l Kiang, who took up Muay Thai after watching his father Kiang a/l Liam’s exploits in the ring, has taken a step closer to becoming a national Muay Thai exponent.
The 20-year-old Athachai was today crowned winner of the 63.5-67kg category in the Federal Territories Sports Council Cup held in conjunction with the 2022 Perlis Malaysian Family Aspirations (AKM) Tour programme at the Tuanku Syed Putra Sports Complex, which ended today.
Athachai, who is the second of six siblings, beat Mohd Afiq Aiman Mohd Adnan, 20, of Kedah for his first-ever win in a major meet in six years.
“For the Kuala Lumpur Malaysia Games (Sukma) from September 29 to October 8, I will take part in the Muay Thai Wai Kru category, which is a dance routine,” said Athachai, who trains daily at the Saiprawat Muay Thai Gym in Kampung Teluk Epa, Utan Aji here that is owned by his father.
A total of 100 exponents from four states, namely Federal Territories, Penang, Kedah and Perlis took part in the Muay Thai event. – Bernama, March 28, 2022
