A MUAY Thai boxer died after he was hit and thrown 40 metres by a pickup truck while jogging at Kilometre 4, Jalan Gua Musang – Sungai Terah on Wednesday.
In the incident at about 6.05 pm, the victim, Mohamad Nabil Mohamad, 20, was said to have died at the scene.
Gua Musang District Police Chief, Superintendent Sik Choon Foo, said police received a report of the incident from the public at 6.30 pm.
According to him, initial investigations found that the 33-year-old pickup truck driver was travelling from Sungai Terah towards Gua Musang before he is believed to have lost control.
"As a result of the incident, the vehicle involved skidded to the side of the road and hit the victim, who was jogging with his friend.
"The collision caused the victim to be thrown about 40 metres while the pickup truck involved skidded and overturned on the side of the road," he said in a statement.
He said the victim was confirmed dead at the scene of the incident due to serious injuries, while the victim's friend only suffered minor injuries.
He added that the driver and passengers of the pickup truck were rushed to Gua Musang Hospital for further treatment.
“The victim’s body has been taken to the Gua Musang Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem,” he said.
According to Choon Foo, the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
