KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s top shuttler Lee Zii Jia enters the finals of the 2022 Thailand Open after defeating compatriot Liew Daren 21-16, 13-21, 21-14 in 51 minutes.

World number six Zii Jia led the first set, but veteran Daren came back strong in the second set to force a third set showdown between the Malaysians.

Zii Jia took charge once again in the final set and secured his spot in the finals where he will either face Japan’s Kodai Naraoka or China’s Li Shi Feng.

National women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan are out of the 2022 Thailand Open after losing against seventh seed Japanese duo Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida 17-21, 17-21 in 42 minutes today.

Pearly-Thinaah won against Japan’s Yuki Fukushima-Sayaka Hirota yesterday in the quarter-finals 24-22, 21-12 at the Impact Arena in Bangkok.

Malaysian men’s doubles duo Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik end their 2022 Thailand Open campaign in the semi-finals after losing to Indonesia’s Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto 21-19, 21-14 in 34 minutes.

At the Impact Arena in Bangkok, the sixth seed pair won against Taiwan’s Lee Yang-Wang Chi Lin 21-17, 21-10 in their quarter-finals match yesterday. – The Vibes, May 21, 2022
