KUALA LUMPUR – Authorities have taken the necessary steps to manage traffic in and out of the Sepang International Circuit (SIC) this weekend for the Malaysian motorcycle Grand Prix.
In a press conference today, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) police chief Imran Abd Rahman said authorities will be diverting traffic around SIC and leading to and from KLIA & klia2.
This is to allow smoother traffic for spectators who will be heading to the circuit to catch their favourite riders battling it out on the track.
Imran said some 650 officials will be deployed this weekend, and 120 will be stationed to ensure smooth traffic.
He advised travellers heading to the airports to plan their trip ahead of time, as there will be heavy traffic throughout the day.
The first official practice session for Moto3 will begin at 9am tomorrow, and the final race will begin at 3pm on Sunday, October 23.
SIC had previously announced that ticket-holders will be entitled to free parking, and Imran said that illegal roadside parking will not be tolerated.
“Action will be taken on those who park in undesignated spots alongside the road or anywhere in the circuit.
“We will have a helicopter monitoring the traffic situation around the area to make the needed changes and ensure traffic runs smoothly,” he said.
Imran also said that both uniformed and plainclothes officers will patrol the circuit and its car parks for security reasons.
“It has been two years since MotoGP held a race here in SIC, so we want to make sure that everyone has a great time while following the instructions given by the authorities.
“To avoid traffic, it would be best to arrive at the circuit early,” he added. – The Vibes, October 20, 2022
