KUALA LUMPUR – National mixed doubles shuttlers Chan Peng Soon, Peck Yen Wei, and Cheah Yee See will be turning professional after they officially leave the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) on November 30.
Two days ago, Yen Wei announced her departure from the national body, leaving Chen Tang Jie without a partner.
In a statement issued by BAM today, Peng Soon, Yen Wei, and Yee See expressed their gratitude to the badminton body’s president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria and the national body for their support and guidance over the years.
“I want to thank the president, Tan Sri Norza Zakaria and BAM for giving me the opportunity to return to the national team last year.
“I enjoyed every bit of my time with the young players and coaches, but the time has come for me to move on and think of my future,” said Peng Soon.
Meanwhile, Yen Wei said she was “grateful for the support and guidance from BAM for the past decade. I truly appreciate all the opportunities that were given to me to represent our country.”
Yee See, who has been with the association for 15 years, said that she has progressed and developed into a national player and had the opportunity to represent Malaysia in various international competitions.
“I will never forget the time I spent with BAM. I am sad to leave the national team, but I also need to consider my future.”
In the meantime, BAM also noted that it was thankful for the players’ years of unwavering service to the country as they grew into world-class players “in their own right”.
For the record, Peng Soon won the 2016 Olympics silver medal with Goh Liu Ying, while Yen Wei won the 2021 SEA Games gold with Chen Tang Jie.
