KUALA LUMPUR – The national men’s sepak takraw quadrant team exited the 2022 International Sepak Takraw Federation World Cup in South Korea after losing to traditional rivals, Thailand in the quadrant semifinal yesterday.

Haziq Hairul Nizam, Noraizat Nordin, Azlan Alias and Norfaizzul Razak lost 0-2 in the 50-minute match at Daejon Hanbat Sports Complex in Daejeon that was dominated by Hanoi South East Asian Games quadrant gold medallists Pornthep Tinbangbon, Phutawan Sopa, Rachan Viphan and Yodsawat Uthaijaronsri.

The Malaysians had their hopes up for the semis after beating Japan in straight sets in the quarterfinal.

But things are not over yet for the Malaysian contingent as they will take on Thailand today in the final of the regu event, with Mohammad Syahir Mohd Rosdi, Mohammad Azlan Alias and Amirul Zazwan Amir at 8am Malaysian time.

The regu squad qualified for the final after defeating hosts South Korea in the semifinal on Sunday. – Bernama, November 29, 2022
