KUALA LUMPUR – Taekwondo Malaysia (TM) is confident of winning two gold medals at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia this May.

TM secretary-general R. Dhanaraj said the realistic target will be an improvement compared to the team’s previous performance, having won a gold, two silver, and five bronze in the 2019 edition and one gold, one silver, and three bronze in 2022.

“TM is also targeting a silver and three bronze for the Games,” he told reporters after the Sports Work Committee meeting at the National Sports Council in Bukit Jalil here today.

He said that the team would compete in 15 out of 24 events at the biennial games and that preparations were being made to the full list of athletes before being finalised this February 19.

“TM has yet to decide as there are national championships that will be held in the middle of this month. From there we will assess their performance before deciding the best athletes for the SEA Games.

“Those selected will undergo pre-Games preparations in March, followed by a six-week training camp in South Korea before heading to Cambodia,” he said. – Bernama, February 7, 2023
