BUKIT JALIL – The Malaysia Athletics Federation (MAF) and Malaysia Swimming have been told to organise a post-mortem and report their findings to the National Sports Council (NSC) over their failure to achieve their target at the recently concluded SEA Games in Cambodia.

“We will ask both the national associations to have post-mortem sessions and report their findings to the NSC.

“But like Tan Sri Norza Zakaria said, these associations were warned about changes two SEA Games ago,” said Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh at a press conference held at the NSC in Bukit Jalil here today.

Earlier, Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim said the medal target for athletics came from him as he had not consulted with MAF’s coaching panel.

Shahidan is the president of both MAF and Malaysia Swimming.

“I hope both the associations will relook at their targets and get back to NSC. The Olympic Council of Malaysia will then evaluate and make interventions where necessary,” said Hannah.

MAF had set a 10-gold target for the Cambodia Games but only brought home five while swimming only mustered one gold out of the three it had targeted. – The Vibes, May 19, 2023
