KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Swimming welcomed new faces in the association, including two former national swimmers and Olympians, following their 54th annual general meeting for the 2023/2025 term here today.
They are Selangor head coach Marilyn Chua who was elected as the vice-president and swimming great Nurul Huda Abdullah as the assistant secretary.
Malaysia Swimming Federation president Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim, who has held the spot since 1996, retained his post unopposed.
“It is time for a big change in the association…I hope these new people will be able to take on the challenge and responsibility.
“We also welcome young people and former athletes in the association so they could lead the association in the future,” said Shahidan when met after the meeting.
Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur’s Mae Chen, who held the secretary-general post since 2015, lost to Negri Sembilan’s Andy Low.
“This is a fair election. I realise that I bear a heavy responsibility, because we have six disciplines in aquatics.
“Frankly, I am supposed to retire, but I am here to help make some changes in the association,” said Low.
Additionally, Oon Kee Seng of Perak and Nancy Yap of Kuala Lumpur successfully defended their respective positions as deputy president and treasurer.
Five individuals were appointed as committee members, namely Penang’s Tasha Jane Taher Ali, Negri Sembilan’s Goh Kah Yi, Kedah’s Chee Pao Kam, Johor’s Haris Lua Abdullah, and Sabah’s Mohd Azwan Abd Halim. – The Vibes, June 17, 2023
