KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Football League (MFL) chief executive officer Stuart Ramalingam has assured that the league is closely monitoring the current flooding situation in parts of the country.
Speaking to The Vibes, Stuart said the league is always in contact with the clubs across the country to monitor their situation.
If needed, he said MFL could make a decision ahead of time in regard to either delaying or postponing matches if they cannot go on in their entirety.
With constant rainfall affecting pitch conditions in almost every stadium, Stuart said the decision to temporarily call off a match falls to the referee.
“The call is done by the referee on match day if he feels that the pitch is unplayable or unsafe for the players,” he said.
Districts in Johor, namely Kluang, Johor Baru, Kota Tinggi, Batu Pahat, and Segamat, are experiencing floods.
25,213 flood victims have been evacuated to relief centres this morning after experiencing continuous rainfall.
Other states such as Pahang, Sabah, Negri Sembilan, and Melaka have also had to evacuate its residents to relief centres due to constant rain.
In the Super League, Johor Darul Ta’zim won their second straight game after beating Kuala Lumpur City FC 3-0 yesterday, while the Southern Tigers also confirmed rumours about former Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao joining the club. – The Vibes, March 2, 2023
