IPOH – Ipoh City Council (MBI) has submitted a letter to the Youth and Sports Ministry seeking an allocation to upgrade the football pitch at the Perak Stadium with the Zeon Zoysia grass, said Ipoh Mayor Datuk Rumaizi Baharin.

He said the stadium, built in 1997, now uses crow grass.

“We sent the letter two days ago. It was from MBI to Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh…hopefully, it will be approved.

“If possible, we want to change (it) first, then we’ll carry out maintenance (work),” he told reporters during a breaking fast event organised by MBI, M Roof Hotel, Econsave Supermarket, Navira Meditech & Perak Community Specialist Hospital in collaboration with the Perak Media Sports and Welfare Club, here, today.

On March 7, the ministry offered allocations through matching grants to all state youth and sports committee chairmen to upgrade selected football pitches with Zeon Zoysia.

Hannah said the offer was made during the first ministry meeting with state excos in January and now they were waiting for feedback, which is expected to be presented in the upcoming second meeting.

Meanwhile, Rumaizi said MBI would also lobby for international matches to be held at the Perak Stadium if their application is successful. – Bernama, March 24, 2023
