KUALA TERENGGANU – Terengganu made its own history when Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium (SSMZA) in Gong Badak near Kuala Nerus was selected as the venue for two Harimau Malaya international friendly matches in June.

The Football Association of Terengganu deputy president Datuk Marzuki Sulong said the selection was an honour for it in particular, and Terengganu in general.

Marzuki, who is also Malaysian Football League (MFL) board member expressed his appreciation to Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin and national team coach Kim Pan-gon for the decision.

“The national squad will face Solomon Islands on June 15 and Yemen on June 20. The Harimau Malaya are currently ranked 138th in the world while Solomon Islands 134th and Yemen, 157th.

“This is sweet history for Terengganu because Harimau Malaya will play for the first time in our stadium,” he said when contacted today.

Accordingly, Marzuki called on the 40,000-odd local football supporters to turn up at SSMZA to support the national squad.

The people of Terengganu, he said, are sports lovers and have emerged as one of the biggest sports powers in the country.

“I hope the supporters will come to SSMZA to witness the matches and the Harimau Malaya players in action before their own eyes. Show enthusiasm and undivided support for the progress of national football,” he said. – Bernama, April 19, 2023
