KUALA LUMPUR – National Moto3 racer Syarifuddin Azman will be out of action in the Italian and German Grands Prix (GP) after crashing and injuring himself during practice at the Mugello International Circuit in Italy yesterday.
His team, ZK Racing, said in a statement today that Syarifuddin, better known as Damok, fractured his left ribs after he skidded and was thrown off his machine during the second free practice session.
“He will miss two races (#ItalianGP & #GermanGP).
“Damok will be monitored throughout his recovery process. Let’s pray for Damok’s speedy recovery so that he does even better on his return,” the statement said.
The 22-year-old rider, who was making his debut on the Mugello circuit, hopes to recover fast and participate in the coming races.
“I need to recover fast and make a strong return. I hope all will pray for my quick recovery.
“Please support my brothers who will be racing this week in the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup,” he said in a video shared by ZK Racing today.
In the first free practice session, Damok successfully completed the task with a best lap time of two minutes and 00.012 seconds to be placed 26th out of 29 riders.
The Italian GP runs from yesterday until tomorrow while the German GP will be held from June 16 to 18.
In the previous round at the French GP, Damok could not finish the race after getting involved in an accident while chasing for position in the leading pack of 10 riders at the Le Mans Circuit in May.
He is now lying in 22nd spot out of 29 riders after collecting five points from his 11th place finish in the Argentina GP in early April. – Bernama, June 10, 2023
