ISKANDAR PUTERI – Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) head coach Esteban Solari is satisfied with his team’s 2-0 win over Selangor FC last night despite being given a tough time.

The Argentinian-born coach said his team had entered the pitch prepared for a tough game as if they were playing in a final.

“Sometimes it is difficult to read this kind of game but I am more than happy with the performance of my team.

“We controlled the game from the beginning until the end. Of course, we lost a few chances (to score) because there were so many players defending the goalpost,” he said at the post-match press conference here.

He praised JDT’s new striker Heberty Fernandes, who scored the opening goal in his first appearance during the second half.

“We need players like him, (but) he also needs time as he just came here,” he added.

Meanwhile, Selangor FC coach Tan Cheng Hoe was also full of praise for his players despite losing to the Super League leaders.

“We planned to steal one point here. But overall my players were very disciplined, and we know JDT played at a higher level. That’s why we couldn’t control the situation.

“The loss of Mickey (Mohamad Faisal Halim) somewhat affected our game,” he added.

Cheng Hoe said Selangor FC were determined to keep their second spot in the table and would strengthen their play for future matches. – Bernama, July 30, 2023
