SHAH ALAM – The Selangor government is awaiting approval of the planning permission application for the demolition of the Shah Alam Stadium which is earmarked to be replaced by the Shah Alam Sports Complex.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said he expects the demolition of the state landmark to be undertaken in October or early November.

"Now I'm waiting for the planning permission.... Once we get it, we will carry out (the demolition) this year," he said. "Of course, the stadium will be demolished this year. If not early October, at the end of October or maybe early November. That's our target."

The sports new complex would be targetted for completion by 2026, he said when commenting on the latest development on the stadium's demolition when met at the Selangor Property Expo 2023 opening ceremony here today.

It was reported in June that the state government had sent an application for the demolition of the Shah Alam Stadium.

The state is also reported to have announced that the landmark and its surrounding facilities will have a new look, through a collaboration with Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB) at an estimated cost of RM787 million. – The Vibes, September 30, 2023
