THE wreckage of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) helicopter that crashed into Sungai Pulai was successfully recovered at around 11am today and will be transported to the Air Operations Force (PGU) base in Subang, Selangor for further investigation.
Air Operations Force Commander Datuk Noor Sham Md Jani said a detailed probe will be undertaken by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (BSKU).
“Cooperation among multiple agencies accelerated the wreckage recovery, allowing for a more comprehensive investigation to proceed,” he told Bernama.
The phased recovery operation, involving a floating crane and several police assets, began early this morning. Among the agencies assisting in the effort were the Royal Malaysian Navy (TLDM), Marine Police Region Two, and the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM).
The downed aircraft, a twin-engine AS355N helicopter bearing the registration 9M-PHG, was retrieved and brought ashore under close supervision. Bernama’s observations from the scene at 7.30am showed that meticulous preparations were made before the helicopter was gradually lifted and transferred to a nearby jetty.
The incident occurred last Thursday during the Multilateral Nuclear Security Detection Exercise (MITSATOM) 2025, a regional training operation involving Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore, held at the Gelang Patah maritime jetty.
As of 13 July, all five crew members had been reported in stable condition, including two personnel receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru. - July 17, 2025
