NORAIDAH Lamat, the mother of the late Zara Qairina Mahathir, arrived at the Karamunsing Police Station, Kota Kinabalu with a team of lawyers and representatives from non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to hand over her mobile phone.
The lawyer representing her, Hamid Ismail, said the mobile phone contained audio recordings of conversations between Noraidah and Zara, and will be used to assist in the ongoing investigation.
“To help complete the police investigation, our client, Noraidah Lamat, who is Zara’s mother, will hand over her mobile phone containing audio recordings of telephone conversations between her and Zara to the police," he said.
The recording is expected to serve as crucial evidence in the authorities' ongoing investigation to determine the actual cause of the Form One student's death.
Zara Qairina, 13, was found dead after allegedly falling from the third floor of a school hostel in Papar last month.
Earlier this week, the clothes Zara wore on the night of the incident were also handed over to the police. – August 7, 2025
