Motivator denies child sex abuse charges

A 33-YEAR-OLD programme facilitator has appeared before the Magistrate’s Court in Balik Pulau, Penang and entered a plea of not guilty to three charges of physically sexually assaulting a 12-year-old male student at a motivation camp.

Mohamad Firdaus Abdul Shukor made the plea after the charges were read to him before Magistrate Chia Huey Ting.

The accused is alleged to have committed the offences between 4.09am and 4.30am on 12 October at Kem White Resort. He is charged under Section 14(a) and Section 14(d) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years’ imprisonment and caning upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor R Lushani did not offer bail for the unrepresented accused.

The court ordered the case to be referred to the Sessions Court for the bail process, including the appointment of counsel, and set 28 October for mention.

Police previously reported that the suspect, who is married with two children, was detained at his home in Sungai Petani, Kedah, and remanded for a week following the alleged abuse of four 12-year-old students from a national school in Kerian, Perak, who were attending the camp.

Barat Daya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Sazalee Adam confirmed the incident involved pupils from the Perak school.

Seremban Sexual Assault Sentencing

In an unrelated development, a 47-year-old excavator driver was today sentenced to five years’ imprisonment by the Sessions Court in Seremban after pleading guilty to physically sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.

Judge Datin Surita Budin imposed the sentence on S Gunah, to commence from the date of his arrest on 20 October.

The accused was also ordered to undergo rehabilitation counselling and police supervision for one year following the completion of his prison term.

The man was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 for physically sexually assaulting the girl at approximately 4pm on 20 October.

According to the facts of the case, the victim was returning home by bus from Tampin. While in the Bongek, Rembau area, the accused allegedly approached her to shake hands and ask for her telephone number.

 When the victim ignored him and contacted her mother, the accused allegedly grabbed her thigh and arm while using vulgar language.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Norazihah Asmuni handled the prosecution, and the accused was unrepresented. - October 24, 2025
