TWO men appeared in the Petaling Jaya Magistrate’s Court on Monday, facing charges over the grisly murder of a young saleswoman whose body was discovered bound and unclothed on a roadside last month.
K Kaarthiek, 26, wearing a white shirt, and A Hariprasanth, 23, dressed in a long-sleeved white T-shirt, lowered their heads and responded “faham” when the charge was read out by Magistrate Shahril Anuar Ahmad Mustapha.
No plea was recorded for either accused, as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge sheet, the men are alleged to have jointly caused the death of Saraswathy Chan Chee Keong, 24, at Jalan Orkid, near the Blue Water Estate roundabout in Seri Kembangan, between 6.18 pm on 24 October and 2.17 am the following day.
They face charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code read together with Section 34, which carries either the mandatory death penalty or imprisonment for 30 to 40 years upon conviction.
If the death sentence is not imposed, a minimum of 12 strokes of the cane will be mandated.
The prosecution is being conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Lim Leong Hui. Kaarthiek is represented by lawyer Sivahnanthan Ragava, while Hariprasanth is defended by Kailash Sharma and Datin Raj Preet Kaur.
The court has scheduled 16 January 2026 for the next mention of the case to allow for the submission of chemical and post-mortem reports.
The victim, who worked at a supermarket in Ampang and a convenience store in Bukit Bintang, was reported missing before her body was discovered on 24 October.
She was approximately 144 centimetres tall, with shoulder-length blonde hair, long fingernails, and wearing silver earrings in both ears.
Following the discovery of the body, police detained five individuals, including the victim’s former boyfriend, her foster brother, and her female roommate, to assist in the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have emphasised the seriousness of the case, underlining that the investigation is being conducted thoroughly and all evidence is being meticulously examined to ensure that justice is served. - November 17, 2025
