AN Immigration Department officer sustained injuries after being struck by a foreign national during a dawn enforcement operation at an entertainment venue in Bukit Bintang on Thursday.

Director of the Immigration Enforcement Division, Basri Othman, said the incident occurred during an operation that began at 3.15am, when the officer reportedly suffered a suspected fracture to his left leg as the suspect fled the scene.

“The suspect acted aggressively amid the chaotic conditions on the premises’ stairway, causing our officer to fall. He was rushed to hospital and is reported to be in stable condition,” Basri told Bernama.

The operation involved 85 officers, including 15 from the Special Tactical Team (PASTAK).

A total of 48 of 98 foreign nationals inspected were detained for various offences, primarily overstaying and failing to produce valid identification documents.

The detainees included individuals from Myanmar, Thailand, and several African countries.

Basri noted that two Nigerian men were apprehended for allegedly misusing student passes by working as disc jockeys, a violation under Regulation 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963 for breaching the conditions of their visas.

He added that many venue patrons appeared intoxicated during the inspection, and preliminary investigations revealed that the establishment employed foreign women to manage bookings and set service fees via telephone.

All detainees have been transported to the Immigration Department headquarters in Putrajaya for further investigation and legal action.

“This operation demonstrates our commitment to enforcing immigration laws and maintaining public order, particularly in entertainment venues where violations and illegal employment are prevalent,” Basri said. - February 26, 2026
