SOUTH Korean President Lee Jae Myung has proposed a potential meeting between former U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un later this year, should Trump travel to South Korea to attend a regional forum, Lee's office announced.
According to Reuters, President Lee and Trump had a "pleasant" meeting, during which the two men "exchanged praises and talked about assassination attempts against them", Lee’s spokesperson Kang Yu-jung said on Tuesday.
Kang added that the leaders "did not discuss Washington's demand over Seoul's opening to agricultural products".
The proposal marks a renewed attempt at trilateral engagement following a period of diplomatic stagnation, and could signal an openness to revisiting stalled denuclearisation talks. - August 26, 2025
