CHINA has urged Israel to halt and reverse what it called the forced establishment of settlements in the occupied West Bank, while calling for full humanitarian access to Gaza to prevent the crisis from worsening.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi conveyed the message to Israeli President Isaac Herzog during a meeting in Azerbaijan, according to a Chinese Foreign Ministry statement on Oct 16.

Reuters cited Wang saying that the Palestinian question represented the greatest historical injustice of the century, adding that promoting peace and reconciliation in the Middle East remained a cornerstone of China’s regional policy.

He reiterated Beijing’s support for a two-state solution, describing it as the right path towards resolving the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Wang also said the immediate priority was to ensure full access to the Gaza Strip for humanitarian assistance to prevent a worsening humanitarian catastrophe.

China was willing to work with the international community to encourage all parties to resume dialogue and consultations as soon as possible and pursue a political settlement, he added.

Beijing has long supported the Palestinian cause while maintaining close ties with Israel’s regional rival, Iran. - October 16, 2026
