A PRIVATE university student accused of stabbing his former girlfriend and her younger brother in a pre-dawn attack in Kepong faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of two counts of causing grievous hurt.
Chen Jun, 20, a Chinese national, pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur today to allegedly inflicting grievous injuries on the two Malaysian victims, aged 21 and 18, using a knife in a manner that could have caused death.
The alleged attack took place at a house in Taman Sri Bintang, Kepong, at about 5am on Sept 29.
Chen was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail term of 20 years, and a fine or whipping upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal did not offer bail, citing the non-bailable nature of the offences, but said that should the court grant bail, the prosecution sought RM8,000 with two Malaysian sureties and the surrender of Chen’s passport.
Defence counsel Ling Yee Siew sought a lower bail amount, saying her client was studying finance and was not a flight risk.
“Based on a private hospital medical report dated Sept 14, my client is suffering from depression. I therefore seek low bail to allow him to undergo follow-up treatment for a leg injury caused by his own actions while experiencing depression,” she said.
Judge Suhaila Haron granted bail at RM8,000 with two Malaysian sureties and ordered Chen to surrender his passport, as requested by the prosecution.
The court fixed Nov 11 for mention. Chen appeared in court in a wheelchair. - October 15, 2026
