UNITED STATES President Donald Trump announced on social media Friday that Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to halt all shooting along their border, with the ceasefire effective from Friday evening, Xinhua reported.
"I had a very good conversation this morning with the Prime Minister of Thailand, Anutin Charnvirakul, and the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Hun Manet, concerning the very unfortunate reawakening of their long-running War," Trump said on Truth Social, adding that both countries are prepared for peace.
The announcement comes after the long-standing border conflict reignited on Sunday afternoon, following initial clashes in late July. Both sides have accused the other of initiating attacks, resulting in confirmed casualties on both sides.
Thai Defence Ministry spokesman Surasant Kongsiri reported that the latest clashes left nine Thai soldiers dead, over 120 people injured, and nearly 200,000 civilians displaced from affected areas.
Meanwhile, the Cambodian Ministry of Interior confirmed that more than 300,000 Cambodian residents had been forced to evacuate due to the violence.
The ceasefire agreement offers a critical reprieve for the tens of thousands of civilians caught in the crossfire, as international attention focuses on stabilising the border and addressing the humanitarian fallout from the renewed hostilities. - December 13, 2025
