A CONVOY of tankers has been observed departing the Gulf and transiting the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, according to vessel-tracking data, in a development likely to attract close attention from energy markets and security analysts.

Reuters, citing data from MarineTraffic, indicated that the group included four liquefied petroleum gas carriers alongside several oil product and chemical tankers, suggesting a coordinated passage through one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints.

“A convoy of tankers was seen departing the Gulf and transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, vessel-tracking data showed.

“The group comprised four liquefied petroleum gas carriers and several oil product and chemical tankers, with more tankers following from the Gulf,” according to MarineTraffic data.

Additional vessels were reported to be trailing the initial convoy, pointing to a continued flow of tankers navigating the narrow waterway, which carries a significant share of global energy shipments. - April 18, 2026
