YEMEN'S Iran-aligned Houthi movement claimed on Saturday that it had targeted a Saudi Aramco facility in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, using ballistic missiles and drones.

The group stated that the strike was carried out in retaliation for recent Saudi military attacks on Yemen's capital, Sanaa, and several other provinces.

A witness reported seeing a large plume of smoke and fire rising in the vicinity of an Aramco site in Riyadh earlier on Saturday.

Reuters, on Sunday reported that Saudi authorities have not issued an immediate confirmation regarding the reported strike, while state energy firm Aramco did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The reported attack marks a further escalation in hostilities between Saudi Arabia and the Houthis, who have intensified cross-border strikes against Saudi urban centres and critical energy infrastructure in recent weeks.

The incident follows claims by the Houthis last week that they had launched missile and drone strikes against Aramco assets in Yanbu. Saudi Arabia stated at the time that its air defences had intercepted six ballistic missiles fired towards Taif and the Yanbu area, reporting no damage to Aramco installations. - October 4, 2026
