A MAGNITUDE-6 earthquake struck Panama on Monday at a depth of 35km, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said, as the country continued to deal with the aftermath of a powerful tremor that damaged homes and infrastructure.
Panama has recorded more than 300 aftershocks following Friday’s magnitude-7.7 earthquake, which affected central provinces and led the government to declare a national state of emergency over the weekend.
No deaths were reported from Friday’s quake, but at least 27 people were injured and nearly 900 homes damaged, Reuters cited emergency authorities saying.
They warned that the toll could rise as assessments continue in remote communities.
The worst-affected provinces include Los Santos, Cocle, Veraguas and Herrera, authorities said. - October 13, 2026
