KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia plans to revisit its approach to agriculture by modernising the sector and adopting “smart farming” to boost farmers’ income and advance the industry.

Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed said the sector is made even more important to the economy by the Covid-19 pandemic, which has increased the focus on food security and job creation.

“Going forward, we want to make sure this sector continues to grow. Smart farming is going to be an important subject.

“We want to modernise agriculture, get more technologies in, and encourage young people to participate in the sector,” he told a dialogue session with World Bank country manager for Malaysia Firas Raad in conjunction with the virtual launch of the Malaysia Economic Monitor’s Sowing the Seeds report today. – Bernama, December 17, 2020
