COCHLEAR marks three decades of presence in Malaysia and the ASEAN region with the unveiling of its Cochlear Nucleus Nexa System, a smart cochlear implant designed to give recipients access to future innovations through upgradeable firmware and internal memory.
The milestone highlights Cochlear’s long-standing commitment to advancing hearing health and accessibility across the region.
Speaking on the occasion, Stuart Sayers, President of Asia Pacific and Latin America at Cochlear, said; “Our 30th anniversary is a moment to renew our promise: to ensure that the journey of every person with hearing loss is supported by the smart technology and the most dedicated team in Malaysia and ASEAN.

The Cochlear Nucleus Nexa System, built on more than a decade of research and development, allows users to store personalised hearing settings securely and transfer them to a new sound processor, marking a first in hearing implant technology.
Cochlear has worked closely with Malaysia’s hearing-health community since 1995, collaborating with audiologists, surgeons, speech therapists, and partner hospitals to deliver life-changing outcomes for patients of all ages.
In 2022, the company expanded its Kuala Lumpur manufacturing facility with a RM30 million investment, creating over 270 jobs and reinforcing Malaysia as one of Cochlear’s eight global operational hubs.
The 50,000-square-foot facility supports logistics, supply chain, and IT operations for distribution to more than 180 countries, while operating on 100 per cent renewable energy in line with Cochlear’s 2030 net-zero carbon target and Malaysia’s ambition to reach net-zero emissions by 2050.
Globally, Cochlear has helped more than 750,000 people with hearing loss, earning recognition as the most trusted healthcare company in Newsweek’s World’s Most Trustworthy Companies 2024 list. - November 16, 2025
