PRIME MINISTER Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today launched Maybank’s new headquarters at Menara Merdeka Maybank, marking a significant milestone in the group’s 66-year journey and its continued evolution as a leading financial services provider in the region.

The new headquarters consolidates Maybank’s corporate functions under one roof and is designed to enhance collaboration, accelerate innovation and improve operational excellence in meeting the evolving needs of customers and communities across the region.

The launch also reflects Maybank’s forward-looking aspirations while recognising its more than six decades of contribution to Malaysia’s economic development.

Held as Malaysia prepares to celebrate National Day, the opening of Menara Merdeka Maybank carries added significance, with the building’s name reflecting the bank’s deep connection to the nation’s history and its confidence in Malaysia’s continued progress.

Maybank chairman Tan Sri Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said the new headquarters represented more than just a workplace, describing it as a symbol of the trust placed in the institution by generations of Malaysians and its responsibility to support the country’s economic advancement.

"As Maybank moves into a new chapter, the group will continue to uphold that trust by staying true to its purpose, while contributing towards Malaysia’s growth and prosperity for future generations," he said in his welcoming speech at the launch ceremony.

Also present were Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) chairman Raja Tan Sri Arshad Raja Uda, and Maybank Group President and Chief Executive Officer Datuk Seri Khairussaleh Ramli.

Established in 1960, just a few years after Malaysia gained independence, Maybank was founded with the objective of expanding access to financial services and supporting the country’s economic development ambitions.

Over the past 66 years, the group has played a role in mobilising capital, supporting business growth, facilitating trade and investment, expanding financial inclusion and helping more Malaysians achieve home ownership.

Today, as Malaysia’s largest domestic financial institution, Maybank serves more than 17 million customers across 18 markets, guided by its purpose of "Humanising Financial Services".

The group said its purpose-driven approach aligns with the government’s vision of building a more inclusive, resilient and progressive Malaysia.

Beyond banking, Maybank continues to support national priorities through initiatives aimed at expanding financial inclusion, empowering entrepreneurs and strengthening communities under its Social Impact Framework.

Through its focus on Social Finance and Social Empowerment across three key pillars — Education, Community and Environment — Maybank continues to widen financial access, build stronger communities and support sustainable development across ASEAN.

Over the past decade, Maybank has channelled RM76.02 billion through social finance and social empowerment initiatives, creating positive impact for more than 5.76 million lives across the region. - July 30, 2026
