KUALA LUMPUR – To continuously support positive e-commerce growth in Malaysia, Lazada has announced that its group chief strategy officer and founding member, Magnus Ekbom, will serve as acting chief executive officer of Lazada Malaysia, in addition to his current role.

Ekbom is responsible for the group’s long-term development strategy as Alibaba Group’s Southeast Asia flagship platform.

“He will also look into further driving Lazada’s growth as the leading e-commerce platform in Malaysia,” it said in a statement today.

The group also said that Leo Chow, who has served as Lazada Malaysia’s chief executive officer since January 2019, will step down, but remain part of the Alibaba Group.

“Under Leo's leadership, Lazada Malaysia has seen tremendous success, with record-breaking growth and achievements year-on-year,” it said.

Founded in 2012, Lazada Group is the leading eCommerce platform in Southeast Asia.

It is also accelerating progress in Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam through commerce and technology, and aims to serve 300 million shoppers by 2030. – Bernama, January 6, 2021
