KUALA LUMPUR – New delivery platform, Warong Rider, which was started to help food stalls and small businesses, is aiming to recruit over 11,000 riders by the end of 2021.

The Coalition of Malay Hawkers and Petty Traders Associations of Malaysia (GPPPKMM) secretary-general, Mohamed Zamri Mohammed, said 3,500 riders have been registered since its launch on November 18.

“Before this, the hawkers and small traders were using the platform of multinational companies and it was expensive. Our platform creates a win-win situation for users and traders, with the cost of food and goods cheaper,” he said today.

He said Warong Rider, which is also targeting rural areas, currently operates in 20 hubs like Gombak, Bandar Tun Razak and Serdang, and plans to increase the number to over 30 later.

Warong Rider is under the Micro Connector Programme by the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives  Ministry (Medac), and in partnership with GPPPKMM.

Mohamed Zamri was invited as a guest on Bernama TV’s “Koresponden Bernama” programme to discuss via Skype the situation with hawkers and traders during the movement control order (MCO). –  Bernama, January 18, 2021
