BATU KAWAN – DHL Express Malaysia has launched a new RM13 million facility in Batu Kawan to meet the increasing demand for international delivery services by merchants in the northern states of Malaysia.

DHL Express Malaysia and Brunei managing director Julian Neo said the facility, five times larger than its previous location at Taman Inderawasih in Seberang Prai Tengah, would improve shipment processing capacity by 170%.

“The new Prai service centre includes 2,386 square metres of warehousing and office space, which is five times the size of the previous location.

“This will increase shipment processing capacity by 170%, enabling faster transit times and further improve service levels for customers in mainland Penang, Perlis, and Kedah,” he said at the opening of DHL Express Malaysia’s Prai service centre at Batu Kawan Industrial Park, today.

He said that through the new Prai service centre, DHL Express Malaysia customers are in a better position to take advantage of the growth of the B2B and B2C e-commerce sector.

“Participation in foreign trade can bring sustainability, sustainable development, and quality employment for small and medium enterprises, as well as large companies.

“As a key facilitator in the global supply chain, DHL Express helps local businesses realise their growth potential by penetrating export markets,” he said.

Neo added that, in line with Deutsche Post DHL Group’s commitment to achieve zero carbon emissions by 2050, the facility is equipped with solar panel systems and energy efficient infrastructure that is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 26.9%.

“The Prai service centre handles domestic and international shipments to 220 countries and territories under DHL Express coverage as well as providing ServicePoint facilities for customers to collect and unload packages,” he said.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present to officiate the ceremony, said the new centre will be able to capitalise on the thriving e-commerce industry where more businesses are going online to ensure business continuity.

He said it also could support the development of local businesses which are now showing an increase in overseas sales.

“This investment shows the confidence of the logistics provider in the state which as a whole will benefit Penang’s strategic connectivity to the Asean region.” – The Vibes, May 17, 2022
