More than 71% of manufacturers with halal certs are non-Muslims: Rosol

AMPANG – More than 71% of manufacturers holding Malaysia’s halal certification are non-Muslims, showing that halal products are welcomed by all, said Deputy Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid.

“Halal is not only in terms of food, but clothing or resources as a source of income,” he said at a Lotus’s Malaysia event here today.

“The halal certificate is not difficult (to obtain), but there are SOPs to be complied with. Consumers should be confident about Malaysia’s halal certification as it ensures products are ‘clean’ and halal.”

He added that the ministry will ensure that manufacturers with halal certification adhere to the Trade Descriptions Act 2011.

“Under this act, a total of 320 cases related to halal issues were recorded between 2018 and May 2022 that saw seizures of RM11.8 million in mostly food products.”
