GEORGE TOWN – Jasper Healthcare and Jayamas Property Group have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to provide hotel-like facilities for senior citizens.
Jasper CEO Dr Lim Geng Yan said clients can check in and out as they like as this is an alternative to long-term nursing homes.
He added that monthly payment schemes, insurance coverage and flexible investments will be available.
“There would be limited space in nursing homes – because by 2050, the country will be an aged nation.”
The senior care market is expected to grow in tandem with the ageing population but Malaysia, like many others, is largely unprepared for it.
Lim said that Jasper and Jayamas want to bring value to the assisted living industry by making healthcare and quality living costs affordable.
According to UN data, 5.2 million Malaysians are aged currently and it is expected to rise to 14.2 million by 2030. By 2050, 23.6 million of the population will be classified as seniors.
There will be a demand for assisted living facilities as well as jobs tailored for the industry.
Jasper currently operates nursing home facilities in the Klang Valley, Penang, Kuching, Johor Baru and Kuantan.
Meanwhile, Jayamas Property is keen to develop or renovate some of its existing assets into such facilities.
Its managing director Ooi Wei Chong said as an example, that the company has renovated a commercial building in Butterworth called the Jasper Lodge @ The Bagan Suite near the Bagan Specialist Hospital.
There are plans to have another such facility in Batu Maung and to link up with other assisted living providers.
The facilities will be equipped with doctors, geriatric specialists, and nurses, who will educate the guests on how to remain independent despite their old age. – The Vibes, June 30, 2022
