PENANG is set to unveil three refurbished attractions to further spur growth in the state’s tourism industry.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Yang di - Pertua Negri of Penang, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib, will officially reopen the state museum in Farquhar Street soon, while Fort Cornwallis will be next month.

After some eight years of planning and restructuring, the museum and the fort would be reopened to showcase the state's strong historical background.

Lebuh Pantai in George Town is also undergoing a RM24.7 million upgrade to combat the effects of climate change and improve mobility.

Chow said that the three projects would enhance the state's tourism standing.

"Penang's heritage is one of our greatest strengths. As we continue to develop the state, we must also preserve the buildings and places that make the state unique."

The Lebuh Pantai furnishment is funded by the World Bank Adaptation Fund as part of a wider 1.76 km pilot project.

It will feature new footpaths, pocket parks, more trees, and green mobility networks.

The project is led by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP). The project, which is also billed as an urban rejuvenation effort, is to be completed by December.

Chow said that the old but new projects are poised to help the state pull in more tourists.

He said this when opening the 1926 Heritage Hotel, which is also marking its 100th anniversary this year.

The hotel is aiming to cater to tourists coming to Penang for treatment at its sprawling medical facilities here.

The hotel has also recently gained a five-star rating from the tourism authorities. - July 23, 2026.
