KUALA LUMPUR – Bursa Malaysia opened lower today as profit-taking activities emerged in selected heavyweight stocks amid the cautious sentiment in regional markets.

At 9.10am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI fell 3.02 points to 1,430.72 from yesterday’s close of 1,433.74.

The benchmark index opened 2.16 points weaker at 1,431.58.

In the broader market, decliners surpassed gainers 220 to 107, while 230 counters were unchanged, 1,685 untraded, and 21 others suspended.

Turnover stood at 285.98 million units worth RM144.17 million.

Meanwhile, the ringgit retreated against the US dollar in the early session today ahead of the US inflation report due to be announced tomorrow.

At 9.27am, the local note eased to 4.4370/4395 versus the greenback from yesterday’s closing rate of 4.4360/4380. – Bernama, May 9, 2023
