A MEMBER of the Terengganu Royal Family has filed a civil suit against two local financial institutions to recover RM1.985 million allegedly withdrawn from his personal savings accounts without his authorisation.

Tengku Ismail Tengku Ibrahim, 65, filed the writ at the Kuala Terengganu High Court today through his lawyers, Alif Danial Ahmad Shahrulnizam and Mohd Hazwan Hamidun of Rafie & Co.

The businessman is seeking the return of RM1,985,065, as well as general damages, legal costs and interest from both defendants.

According to the statement of claim, Tengku Ismail said he discovered the alleged loss in January this year, after checking his accounts at branches of the two financial institutions.

He claimed the remaining balances were just RM73 in one account and RM99 in the other.

The writ stated that subsequent checks indicated the disputed withdrawals had allegedly taken place between September and December last year.

Kosmo! Online cited Tengku Ismail had lodged a police report over the missing funds at the Kuala Terengganu Police Station on Jan 15.

He also claimed he had never used any online banking application and had not authorised any third party to activate online banking facilities, transfer funds out of his accounts or approve the disputed transactions.

The allegations have been made in a civil suit and have not been established in court. - October 13, 2026
